Amanda Louise Dixon

My name is Amanda Dixon and I am married with four children, three of which were born at home and all were fully breastfed. I was very lucky and had midwives I knew supporting me through my pregnancies, labours and postnatally. I am saddened that so many people aren’t able to achieve this within the NHS now.

Prior to becoming a midwife I was an antenatal teacher for the National Childbirth Trust and also branch chairperson.

I trained as a midwife in Bournemouth and qualified in 2004 and I have been working in the NHS since then. We moved to Essex in 2005.

I am an ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics) Instructor, qualified in Neonatal Life Support and Adult Immediate Life Support. I am a member of the Royal College of Midwives, Association of Radical Midwives and Independent Midwives UK.

I am a firm believer in a woman's ability to give birth. I also believe women need to be provided with individualised care, provided in the comfort of your own home at your convenience to ensure you enjoy this momentous time of your life.

Birth is such an intimate event that those around you should be people with whom you have had time to develop a trusting and caring relationship with.

I would feel privileged to share in this wondrous journey with you and your family providing you with the information and support you require to make the right decisions for you and your family.

When I have spare time I enjoy reading, mostly supermarket fiction, DIY, walking the dog and talking to the chickens, Mildred and Dotty.

I have a great interest in alternative therapies, ecological causes and would love to be self sufficient. I am a supporter of reusable nappies.
